HomeHouse Rules

Ratified by the board November 2023

1.          HOURS:

The Clubhouse is always open to its members in good standing, except for private parties (see section      6 below).  However, there is typically an Officer of the Day (O.D.) on duty during the following hours:

Winter Hours (Nov-Mar)         Summer Hours (Apr-Oct)

Friday:         1800 to 2200 hrs  Friday:      1800 to 2200 hrs

Saturday:   1200 to 1600 hrs  Saturday: 1200 to 1700 hrs

Sunday:      1200 to 1600 hrs  Sunday:    1200 to 1700 hrs

2.          CLUBHOUSE USE:

a). The Clubhouse is available to all club members in good standing and their immediate family, 24 hrs a day, 7 days a week.  Members are each issued an individual personal door code for accessing the club house. Minors under the age of eighteen years of age must be accompanied by an adult club member.

b).    Members may sponsor the use of the Clubhouse by non-profit boating organizations or non-profit public service organizations.  An SCCYC member, in good standing, must be present and be the responsible individual at such an activity and will fulfill the O.D. duties if none is present. The Board of Directors reserves the right to impose a fee for such use.  The Clubhouse cannot be used, under any circumstances, for business, political or religious activities (wedding services and memorial services are exceptions)

c)     The club recognizes that there are members who live on boats in Marina del Rey and use the clubhouses facilities on a very regular, often daily basis. Live aboard members can use the clubhouse facilities on a daily basis, specifically the galley facilities. They may not use the club address as their home or business address. Since live-aboard members use the clubhouse more often than other, it is expected that they should maintain the club facilities and galley in spotless condition. Their use of the club facilities should not be to the detriment of the other club members.

d)     The front door of the club should be kept closed when no one is present downstairs. A Ring doorbell will notify the bar patrons of someone ringing the doorbell.

3.               GALLEY USE:

The use of the galley, including barbecue equipment, is open to all members in good standing.  The size of the galley necessitates limited use.  The motto for all members is: “Leave the galley cleaner than you found it.”

a).    Clean and stow all dishes and cooking utensils used by the member and their guests before departing the Club.  Under no circumstances shall dirty dishes be left in the sinks or on any surrounding counter     tops.

b).    Wipe the countertops, stove, sink and tables, as needed, before leaving.

c).    Sweep or mop the floor before leaving as necessary.

d).    If the trash container is full or nearly full, remove the trash bag and take it to the trash bins located in the yard, to the left, by the fence towards Bali Way.

e).    Make certain on Sunday evening that all trash cans are emptied no matter if the container is nearly empty.  Sometimes the clubhouse is closed all week and trash odor which concentrates in the enclosed space is difficult to eliminate.  Replacement liners are stored under the sink in the galley and in the bottom of the trash containers.

4.              REFRESHMENTS:

Refreshments are served by volunteer club members under the management of the House-Chair and are for the exclusive use of SCCYC members and their guests while on club premises.  Alcoholic beverages are not sold at the Club.  Instead, donations to the club operating fund are accepted to allow continued supply of beverages and to sustain club operating costs.  When the O.D. is present, he/she is the primary member who should serve all beverages from the club’s supply and collect the bar donations.

5.              CLUB CARE:

Any individual or group using the Club facilities when the Officer of the Day (O.D.) is not on duty shall be completely and personally responsible for care, clean-up, fire prevention, lights-out, fans and heater off, and completely securing and locking-up the Clubhouse.  The last person to leave must be certain that the building is secure (cash/liquor cabinet, office, side door, upper deck door and main entry door)

6.              PRIVATE PARTIES:

a).    Members may host private      parties at the club with prior approval by the Rear Commodore. Inviting 10 or more people to the club on a given date constitutes a private party. Yet, the clubhouse cannot be closed to other members at such times. When hosting private parties, any food, etc. is reserved for the use of that group and is not open to the members.

b).    If a member is hosting an event in which they will be bringing their own wine, or specialty drinks, a donation to the club is suggested that is commensurate with the size of the party and the quantity of drinks served. Members may not charge an admission fee for private      parties.

c).    At the discretion of the Rear Commodore a refundable security deposit may be imposed.  The amount of such deposit shall be negotiated at the time of request.

d).    The maximum number of guests allowed at any exclusive social event will be fifty (50) people.

e).    If any clean-up is needed after a member hosts such event, a $150 clean-up fee will be charged. This includes not taking out the trash, dirty dishes, floors need mopping, tables and counters left dirty.

7.              CLUBHOUSE USE RESERVATION PROCEDURE

All requests for the use of the Clubhouse must be made to the           Rear Commodore for approval.  When time permits, the reservation shall be published in the club newsletter prior to the event.  In addition, the date, time, and name of the contact member or organization shall be posted on the Club calendar for members to see at least seven (7) days prior to the event.  The Board of Directors reserves the right to limit the number of times per calendar year any member may reserve the Clubhouse.

8.              GUESTS:
