Cruising

Cruising is as popular with Club members as is racing. SCCYC members own both sailboats and powerboats, and some even charter their own! Members and guests enjoy trips all over southern California. We’ll do day sails for lunch in King Harbor, overnight to Paradise Cove, a weekend to Catalina or longer trips to San Diego or the Channel Islands. There are many places to go!

The biggest annual cruise event is the Emerald Bay Cruise to Catalina in late June. SCCYC hosts and several other yacht clubs join in on the fun. We usually have about 100 people participate bringing between 25-30 boats across. The cruise includes BBQ potluck, and lots of swimming, snorkeling, hiking, kayaking, and games. A highlight is the annual SCCYC Ukulele group campfire sing along.

In September we have the Fletcher Memorial Cruise to Catalina Island. This event is actually a cruise/race combo. On Saturday we sail over and then on Sunday we race back. It’s fun and easy, no racing experience necessary.

Watch our calendar for cruise events, and if you’re interested in joining, or want to help host a cruise, please email Vice Commodore Lynette Scala at vicecommodore@sccyc.org.
